Have we found the god protocol?

God’s intervention…

With the explosion of interest in cryptocurrencies in recent months that saw Bitcoin pump and 100m new wallets opened, large asset manager slow to the party made a move investing blockchains and mining. The Elon Musk effect shows how fickle Bitcoin can be, with doubling down on a BTC BUY strategy, and of course the feeding frenzy around NFTs and DeFi projects — investors are looking for the next Bitcoin.

We know investors like to get in early as the multiple crypto-billionaires can attest. Everyone now realises Blockchain as a significant technology…

With the rise of more Ransomware attacks — the most recent hitting Silicon Valley VC firms, I decided to re-post this reminder.

Solarwinds Dashboard

I wrote this a few months ago as the recrimination and finger pointing continued centred on the that showed why we need to move beyond Passwords, as subsequent hacks show — the Colonial Pipeline hack on the eastern seaboard, JBA stopping much of US beef production, a Florida water treatment plant under water, the list is now endless as we enter the realms of Ransomeware-as-a-Service.

Whilst we have (APT) Advanced Persistent Threat teams working away, it…

Look, I’ve been warning of the inherent risks and problems with NFTs and have explained why the current NFT solutions that use the current iteration of blockchains do not, and cannot work for a whole multitude of reasons. Mostly because a ‘token’ is completely worthless and it isn’t linked to the thing, asset, picture, the piece of art, you think you have purchased.

I do think Non Fungible Tokens are a great concept, and the decentralisation of blockchains should be the perfect technology to create new stores of value for artists and creators to benefit in a trustless, secure approach…

Yes, you heard it here…the industry is being faced with a another Walkman, another iTunes moment, that will fundamentally redefine how the music industry works — from top to bottom, from artist to fan...

Imagine a place where music artists can interact with their fans in ‘real time’, knowing what content they have purchased, which concerts they are about to attend, and when they have safely checked into a venue. A place where artists can have a direct (financial) relationship with each fan? Where fans for the first time are no longer kept away from the artist by the soulless platforms, whos only focus is making money from the mass market audience…

Imagine a music industry where fans can receive hand picked unique content from their heroes — how special would it make them…

A digital world needs digital content that can be owned. A data-driven economy (democracy) needs data that is sovereign, with rights, emancipation, and identity. A world where data becomes a digital asset, empowering artists, content creators and individuals, as well as businesses and institutions of all kinds. We are entering a realm where all data will have value and be traded — but are the current Blockchains up to the job of NFTs?

For investors travel is a mega trend that cannot be ignored…

We are all ready for a holiday…

I was sort of surprised to learn how much investment, smart money is piling into the travel tech, leisure tech and the travel logistics sector.

Why is travel and leisure industry that has been pounded by the pandemic, experiencing a 90% fall in tourism and business traffic, the closure of restaurants, entertainment attracting so much capital?

Let’s think about it for a second…we can assume the bounce back when the world starts moving again will be very strong…people want to travel — need holidays, to visit families…cities need tourism to return quickly. …

Back in 2016 I delivered a keynote to the Chief Digital Officers event in London, where they were discussing the revelations that was the next big thing — Digital Transformation…and I couldn’t believe the complete tosh I was hearing. And it’s getting worse.

It was certainly a case of ‘the emperors new clothes’ as the so called CDOs espoused the benefits of going digital and that digital transformation was the answer to future organisational success, although couldn’t give any examples where it had worked.

I have never been shy so I explained to the audience — why Digital Transformation is…

As the competitive rulebook plays out there are often two or more new technologies competing for their futures, that emerge from the crowd that have the potential to win-to become the de-facto standard. And sometimes the best technology doesn’t always win. Much of the equation comes down to market penetration, share and brand association as we saw with VHS battling with Betamax in the 1980’s, previously IBM Mainframes competing with distributed mini computing DEC (Digital Equipment Company).

In few cases one or more brands impose their preferred technology model, their stack, their standard as with IOS and Android, who after…
